Jane Blair, artist, educator and owner of Art/Matters, will present the following lectures. These lectures are co-sponsored by the Friends of the Carlisle Council on Aging and the Friends of the Gleason Public Library.

- March 13 - IMPRESSIONISM
The Impressionists were painters of light, painters of nature, and painters of human nature. Having little in common, except a common enemy, the Academy, artists like Monet, Renoir and Degas defied convention and changed the way the whole world looked at art. Like a stone dropped into a still pond, the ripples from this revolutionary style of painting spread out, influencing a whole new generation of artists.
Join us for a close look at many of the paintings that moved the world into the modern era. - March 20 - POST IMPRESSIONISM
Like a stone dropped into a calm pond, the ripples from the revolutionary Impressionist style of painting spread out, influencing a whole new generation of artists. Artists like Van Gogh, Gauguin, Rousseau and Cezanne, among others, took a small step away from Impressionism and influenced whole new movements of art.
Join us for a look at how other artists interpreted this new, personally expressive way of painting, and in turn influenced the course of art in the 20th century. - March 27 - ALEXANDER CALDER
Born in Pennsylvania, he was the third generation of successful sculptors. From when he was a small boy, he was always making “stuff”; toys, utensils, and objects out of bits of string, wire, buttons, cloth, wood and tin. He always had a sense of whimsy about his objects and invented the “Mobile”, a way to compose colorful shapes, and fine lines moving in a constantly changing arrangement. He is also known for creating and performing his own circus.

Dr. Dolinsky holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology and is a Professor of Psychology at Endicott College. Dr. Dolinsky has also acted as Vice President of Student Affairs, and the Dean of Arts and Sciences at Endicott.

Using evidence-based practice advocated within the field of positive psychology, participants will engage in exercises to build awe, compassion, connection, empathy, forgiveness and gratitude. The benefits of practicing positive psychology which include increased feelings of resilience, social connectedness and motivation to maintain physical and social well-being will be discussed.

Dr. Dean Howard, a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon, will discuss who is a candidate for hip and knee replacement surgery, what is involved with this type of procedure, and what to expect after the procedure.
Dr. Howard practices at Orthopedic Affiliates, Inc. in Concord and Westford and is affiliated with Emerson Hospital. He is a graduate of Boston University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Virginia Hospital. He specializes in Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery.
