Purpose:  Promote environmentally friendly waste disposal and recycling in town


Transfer Station

The town operates in the "drop off" mode, i.e., there is no curbside service by the town DPW.  Citizens bring their recyclables, reusable items, and trash to the Transfer Station.  It is located off Elizabeth Ridge Road , which is off of Lowell Road , about 1/2 mile north of the town center.

  • Hours: Tuesday and Thursday: 10 am - 7 pm; Saturday: 8 am - 5 pm
  • Annual Sticker fee: $15.00 (purchased at the police station)
  • Recycling Guide: List and Transfer Station Map (copies also available at the Police Station)

Events

  • Hazardous Waste Collection Day (run by the Carlisle Board of Health)
    • Materials accepted: oil-based paints, solvents, stains, pesticides, cleaners, etc.
    • April and October at the Carlisle DPW (behind the Transfer Station)
  • Pass-It-Forward Day
    • Donate clothes, toys, books, household goods, etc.
    • Held annually at the Transfer Station in the spring
  • Foam Polystyrene / StyrofoamTM  Collection Day
    • May and October in Concord (joint with REUSIT)
    • Date, location, and time will be published in the Mosquito

Activities

  • Encourage recycling, reuse, and reducing use
  • Publicize the proper separation of recyclable materials for the Transfer Station
  • Mail a Recycling Guide to all new Carlisle residents
  • Provide for recycling electronic media (CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes, etc.) at the Transfer Station’s Swap Shed
  • Provide free mailers for recycling computer ink jet cartridges (available at the library, post office, and Swap Shed)
  • Provide a box for recycling laser toner cartridges at the post office
  • Plan special recycling days
  • Promote home composting
  • Support the town "Buy Recycle" program -- encourage purchasing recycled materials
  • Promote recycling of [mercury-containing] Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs (CFLs): hand to Transfer Station attendant
